In 1962, Jean LaBerge, a Quebec pilot and businessman, learned of the accidental death of his brother Armand, 22, a secular missionary in the Peruvian Amazon. The latter could not be saved for lack of means of transport and communication. Jean LaBerge then thought of seeking a solution to make up for this lack.
“I didn’t understand that my brother died there. So I wanted to do something for all those people who risk their lives on a daily basis.” Journal de Montréal, Février 1978, interview Franco Nuovo
March 12, 1971 is the official date of birth of the Ailes de l’Espérance, an event that concretizes the actions of Jean LaBerge and others. To mark this anniversary, we propose to relive the history of the Wings of Hope through various documents that we invite you to consult (newsletters, radio interviews, magazines, film and slideshow).
We will begin with the humanitarian and missionary air transport service and radiocommunication in the Peruvian Amazon. By clicking on the photos of the mosaic below, you will discover this wonderful adventure.
Thanks to your great generosity and faithful support, the organization celebrated its 50th anniversary on 12 March 2021.
