50th : years 2000

First, we pay tribute to the group of Canadian business people who, in 1970, came together to found the Wings of Hope to support marginalized communities in Peru. They wanted to forge fraternity ties between Peruvians and Canadians. These are Mr Jean LaBerge, Mr Noel Girard, Mr Lionel Couture, Mr Jean-Guy Lauzon, Mr Jean-Guy Couture, Mr Marcel Pépin and Mr. Jean Lambert. Thus, on 12 March 1971, the Wings of Hope were born.

We also pay tribute to the valiant presidents who have succeeded each other in the leadership of the Wings of Hope since 1971: Mr. Noel Girard (died in May 2000), Lionel Couture (died in November 2013), Pierre Théroux, Mario Desjardins and Jean-François Taschereau who had previously piloted for twelve years the aircraft of Alas de Esperanza in the Peruvian Amazon.

Then, from 1995 to 2000, Claude Gagnon (died July 2017) wore the destiny of the organism on his shoulders. We invite you to click on the five images of the articles about his dedication to the indigenous communities of the Amazon that he loved so much.

Here are some photos by Claude Gagnon (click on the photo to enlarge).

In 2000, André Franche accepted the presidency of the Wings of Hope to continue the mission of supporting the development efforts of disadvantaged communities in Latin America, specifically in Peru. He was assisted by Annick Delestre, who had been a volunteer in Peru for several years.
